Kambo has long been revered by Amazonian tribes for its powerful cleansing and healing properties, yet only recently has modern science begun to explore its complex biochemical and physiological effects. In this talk, we’ll trace the scientific journey of Kambo—from early ethnopharmacological reports to contemporary studies examining its peptides, immune modulation, and therapeutic potential.
We’ll explore what the research has revealed so far, what remains unknown, and where the field is heading. As interest in Kambo grows, we must ask: How do we study it ethically? What frameworks are needed to honor both indigenous knowledge and scientific rigor? And what role might Kambo play in the future of medicine, mental health, and integrative healing?

Anura ElizabethOne Pulse: The Ecology of Remembrance
In a world experiencing ecological, social, and spiritual imbalance, perhaps the greatest crisis isn’t simply climate change, but a crisis of relationship, born out of our severance from nature.
Through personal narrative, the lens of ceremony, and the teachings of Kambo alongside other Earth-based wisdom traditions, we’ll explore the understanding that life is not an isolated journey, but a symbiotic one. Together, we’ll examine the living connection between humans, nature, and spirit, not as separate forces, but as interwoven expressions of the same pulse. We’re reminded how reciprocity is a sacred responsibility, intention is an act of remembering, and ceremony is a way of living.
In this talk, we walk an ecological pathway to harmony, where the well-being of people and the well-being of the planet are inseparable. Along the way, the medicines will remind us what we belong to, and we’ll discover that true healing does not mean fixing ourselves, but remembering our place within the living web of life.

Lewis PowellMatsés Culture, Reciprocity and Responsibility.
This talk explores the culture of the Matsés people, the original guardians of Kambo. Drawing from direct stories shared by Matsés chiefs, elders, and shamans, the Lewis offers insight into their traditional use of Dow-Kiet and the deep cultural significance this medicine holds in their way of life. Having been granted permission to study their traditions and learn directly from the community,Lewis carries the responsibility of sharing their words with respect and care. The talk also examines the Matsés' first contact in 1969, the lasting impact of that moment, and the ongoing need for Kambo practitioners to act as stewards — not only of the medicine, but of the culture it originates from. Attendees are invited to reflect on the depth and sensitivity of this relationship, and to consider the true meaning of reciprocity.

This method, rooted in Matsés tradition and passed on through the oral teachings of Maestro Dunu in Ibama, Peru, offers a powerful and less-invasive alternative to the burn method commonly known in the West. Whether you are a facilitator, or simply curious about traditional Amazonian medicine, this talk will offer a rare window into a lineage that has survived for centuries.
